Status Board Overview
Reading time: 3 minutes
The Status Board is where you track every patient who is physically in your clinic right now. It shows who arrived, who’s waiting, who’s in surgery, and who’s about to leave. The board overlays your Dashboard page, so you open it and close it without leaving your main screen.
Opening and closing the Status Board
The Status Board appears on top of the Dashboard. At the top you see the title “Status Board” with a Search field to filter patients by name. In the top-right corner, click the X button to close the board and return to your Dashboard.
Board tabs
Five horizontal tabs run across the top of the board. Each one filters the patient list differently.
Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
My board | Only your patients (this tab appears only if you are a provider) |
In-patient board | Patients admitted for overnight or extended stay |
Out-patient board | Patients in consultation rooms (day’s visits) |
Surgery board | Patients currently in surgical procedures |
Room board | Patients organized by their assigned treatment rooms |
Click any tab to switch views. The patient rows below update immediately.
Reading the board
Each patient occupies one row. The columns tell you everything you need at a glance.
Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
Patient | Patient’s name, species, and age (e.g., “Finn, Feline, 3 years 5 months 5 days”) |
In/Out | Check-in date (“In 2026-04-04”) and check-out date (“Out 2026-04-04”) when applicable |
Provider | Assigned provider with a dropdown to change (e.g., “Michael Gerges…”) |
Reason | Reason for the visit shown in a colored card (e.g., “stomachache”) |
Alerts | Patient alerts with a + Add Alert button. Existing alerts display as colored tags with an X to remove |
Room | Room dropdown to assign or change the treatment room |
Card info | Client contact information: Name, Phone number, Note |
Actions | Four-square grid icon button that opens the Action Menu. It contains change patient state, add vital, add record, mark patient as in or out, mark patient as in surgery, and check out patient |
Adding alerts from the board
You can add and remove patient alerts without leaving the Status Board.
- Find the patient’s row and look at the Alerts column.
- Click + Add Alert.
- Type the alert text (e.g., “Nervous”, “No NSAIDs”).
- Save the alert.
The new alert appears as a colored tag (orange or red) with an X button. Click the X on any tag to remove that alert. These changes sync to the patient’s profile immediately, so the alert also appears in appointment modals and on the patient sidebar.
Searching for a patient
If the board is busy, use the Search field at the top. Type part of the patient’s name and the rows filter to show only matches. Clear the field to return to the full list.
What to do if something goes wrong
The Status Board appears empty even though patients are in the clinic. Check which tab you are on. The My Board tab only shows patients assigned to you. Switch to Out Patient Board or In Patient Board to see all patients in those states.
You cannot see the My Board tab. This tab only appears for users who have a Provider role. If you are front desk or admin staff, you will not see it.
An alert you added from the board does not appear on the patient profile. Refresh the page. Alert syncing is immediate, but a page refresh resolves rare display delays.
You accidentally moved a patient to the wrong state using the Action Menu. Open the Action Menu again and select the correct state. State changes are not permanent and can be corrected at any time.
Note: Contact the viggoVet help if any of these problems persist after following the instructions.
