Calendar Views and Navigation

Available onEliteEnterpriseProfessional

Reading time: 6 minutes

The viggoVet calendar has five distinct views, each designed for a different way of thinking about your schedule. You’ll switch between them depending on whether you’re looking for a single provider’s openings, scanning by appointment type, planning your week, or reviewing a month at a glance.

This page covers each view in detail and explains the navigation controls that let you move through time and adjust how much detail you see.

Opening the calendar

Click Calendar in the main sidebar under the DASHBOARD section. The calendar page loads with the top toolbar showing your filter tabs, Show By dropdown, Categories dropdown, + Add Appointment button, the Time Scale selector, and the view toggle on the right.

Category view (Day)

Select Show By > Categories. The view toggle on the right shows Day.

Instead of provider columns, you see appointment category columns across the top (e.g., “Emergency”, “Consult 01”, “Consult 02”, “Online Booking”, “Surgery”). Appointments appear as colored blocks within their assigned category column. Time slots run down the left.

This view answers the question “how full is each appointment type today?” It’s useful for clinics that organize by room or consultation type rather than by individual doctor.

Provider view

Select Show By > Providers (you’ll see a checkmark next to the selected option in the dropdown).

This view shows one column for each provider. Each column header displays the provider’s avatar and name. An All Providers dropdown filter lets you narrow the display to specific providers when you don’t need to see everyone.

The Provider view is your go-to when you need to answer “who has availability right now?” You can scan columns visually. White space means open. Hatched means they’re off.

Visual Elements of the Calendar:

Visual element

What it means

White areas

Available time slots (from their staff schedule)

Hatched diagonal stripped areas

Off-hours (provider not scheduled to work)

Orange horizontal line

Current time marker

Time labels on the left

Half-hour or finer increments depending on your Time Scale

Week view

Select Week from the view toggle on the right side of the toolbar.

Seven day columns appear labeled Sun through Sat with date numbers (e.g., “Sun 2/1”, “Mon 2/2”, “Tue 2/3”, “Wed 2/4”, “Thu 2/5”, “Fri 2/6”, “Sat 2/7”). Time slots run down the left side. Appointment blocks span across their booked time, giving you a visual sense of how packed each day is.

The Week view helps when you’re planning ahead or want to spot patterns across several days. You’ll quickly see which days are light and which are stacked.

Month view

Select Month from the view toggle.

A traditional calendar grid appears with column headers for Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat. The date header shows the full range (e.g., “Sunday, February 1, 2026 to Saturday, February 28, 2026”).

Each day cell shows appointments as small entries with icons and client/patient text. When a day has more appointments than the cell can display, a +3 more link (or similar count) appears. Click it to expand and see everything booked that day.

This view is best for long-range planning, spotting holidays with no bookings, or getting a quick sense of overall clinic volume across the month.

Agenda view

Select Agenda from the view toggle.

This is a flat list, not a grid. Appointments are grouped under date headers (e.g., “10/05/2026”, “07/05/2026”, “06/05/2026”). A date range appears at the top (e.g., “Fri.May 1,2026 to Sun.May 10,2026”) with left/right arrows to shift the range forward or backward.

Each appointment appears as a card showing:

Field

Example

“19:30”

“60mins”

Patient’s name

“Nala”

Appointment category

“Emergency”

Patient’s breed

“Domestic shorthair (DSH)”

Cat icon on the right beside the status

Navigation controls

Three controls sit in the date header area of the calendar:

TODAY button

Click TODAY (shown with a calendar icon) to jump immediately to the current date. This works in every view. If you’ve scrolled weeks into the future or past, one click brings you back to right now.

Forward and backward arrows

Left and right arrows next to the date move you through time:

View

Each arrow click moves you to…

Day (provider or category)

One day forward or backward

Week

One full week forward or backward

Month

One full month forward or backward

Agenda

Shifts the displayed date range

Date display

Between the arrows, the current date or range is displayed as text. In Day view, you see the full date (e.g., “Sunday, May 10, 2026”). In Week view, you see the date range. In Month view, the first and last dates of the month appear.

Time Scale

The Time Scale value appears in orange/red text on the toolbar (e.g., “Time Scale: 15 M”). Click it to cycle through the available options:

Timing

Best for

5 M

Clinics with very short appointments (vaccines, quick checks)

15 M

Standard for most practices

30 M

Longer appointment blocks

60 M

Longer appointments that require delicate operations

Time Scale affects how the vertical grid is divided in Provider and Category views. In Week view, it controls the row height for each time increment. The Month and Agenda views are not affected by Time Scale since they don’t use a time grid.

Tip: A smaller Time Scale makes it easier to see exactly when appointments start and end, but creates more rows to scroll through. Start with 15 M and adjust based on how your clinic schedules appointments.

What to do if something goes wrong

Calendar shows only hatched/striped areas for a provider. That provider has no staff schedule configured for the displayed day. Check Settings > Configurations > Staff Schedule to add their working hours.

You changed the Time Scale but the grid looks the same. Refresh the page. Some browsers cache the layout temporarily. Also confirm you’re in Provider or Category view, since Month and Agenda views don’t use the time grid.

The TODAY button doesn’t seem to work. Verify your device’s date and time settings are correct. viggoVet uses your system clock to determine “today.”

Week view shows the wrong start day. The week always starts on Sunday. If your region prefers Monday starts, the current version does not change the start day, but appointments still display correctly.

You see “+3 more” in Month view but clicking doesn’t expand. Try clicking directly on the text link, not on the day cell background. If it still doesn’t respond, refresh the page.

Note: Contact the viggoVet help if any of these problems persist after following the instructions.
