AI Patient Profile Summary
Reading time: 3 minutes
The AI Patient Profile Summary button lets you generate a full clinical overview of any patient with one click. When pressed, the clinical AI processes everything attached to the patient profile: medical records, lab results, documents, images, prescriptions, diagnostics, and vitals. It produces a structured written summary covering signalment, active problems, current medications, alerts, recent vitals, recent labs, and recent history. The summary is marked with the date and time it was generated.
Accessing the AI Patient Profile Summary
- Open a patient’s profile.
- It the patient’s permanent top card, the “Summarize Profile” button is at the top right.
- Click the Summarize Profile button.
What the AI processes
The AI reads and analyzes everything available on the patient profile:
Source | What’s extracted |
|---|---|
Medical records | Diagnoses, problems, treatments, SOAP notes, procedures |
Lab results | Hematology panels, chemistry, urinalysis, abnormal values |
Prescriptions | Current and past medications with dates |
Documents and attachments | Uploaded files, referral letters, specialist reports, images |
Vitals | Recent recorded measurements (weight, temperature, etc.) |
Diagnostics | Radiology reports, imaging findings |
Vaccines | Vaccination history |
What the summary contains
The generated summary follows a structured clinical format:
Section | Content |
|---|---|
Signalment | Species, breed, sex, spay/neuter status, age |
Active Problems | Current clinical issues identified from the records |
Current medications | Active prescriptions with item name, dose, and date prescribed |
Alerts | Any recorded alerts on the patient profile |
Recent vitals | Most recent recorded measurements |
Recent labs | Summary of recent laboratory findings with abnormal values highlighted |
Recent history | Chronological summary of recent clinical events, procedures, and findings |
When to use it
- Before a consultation to quickly review a patient’s full history
- When a patient is seen by a different veterinarian who needs context
- Before referral to compile a clinical summary for the specialist
- During handoff between shifts for hospitalized patients
- When a client asks for an overview of their pet’s medical history
How it works
- Click Summarize Patient Profile.
- The AI begins processing all data on the profile (this may take a few seconds depending on how much data exists).
- The summary appears at the top of the Overview tab under the heading “Patient Profile Summary.”
- The summary includes a name and timestamp showing when it was generated precisely
- The summary remains visible on the Overview tab until a new one is generated.
- You can regenerate for fresher results or copy the summary content for external use
Important notes
- The summary is generated from data that exists at the time of the request. New records added after generation are not included until you generate a new summary.
- The timestamp tells you how current the summary is. If significant new records have been added since the last summary, generate a fresh one.
- The AI does not create or modify any records. It only reads and summarizes.
- The summary is a clinical aid. Always verify critical details against the source records.
What to do if something goes wrong
Summary not generating: The AI needs data to work with. If the patient profile has no medical records, labs, or documents, the summary will have limited content. Add records to the profile first.
Summary seems incomplete: Check whether recent records have been added after the summary was generated. Look at the timestamp. Generate a new summary to include the latest data.
Summary takes too long: Patients with extensive histories (many years of records, large files) take longer to process. Wait for the AI to complete. Do not click the button again while processing.
Inaccurate information in summary: The AI summarizes what is recorded. If source records contain errors, the summary reflects those. Correct the source records and regenerate.
Note: Contact the viggoVet help if any of these problems persist after following the instructions.
